He spent his childhood on the family farm located near Atlanta, Kansas. He attended Grand Center School and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1949. He went to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he studied Forestry at Oklahoma State University, and there met his wife, Geneva Lou Worley and they were married in 1951.
Clare was a member of the Richland Rod and Gun Club, Tri-Cities Metallic Silhouette Association, Connell Gun Club, Pheasants Forever and Columbia Basin Friends of NRA. He was a Hunter-Ed Instructor for 30 years. He was always ready to volunteer especially concerning activities involving youth. Clare enjoyed trap shooting and fishing.
He retired in 1986 from the US Geological Survey where he worked water resources as a hydrologist. Clare designed equipment that provided the means to measure and sample large rivers of the world including the Columbia, Orinoco and Amazon River. He worked as a consultant for measuring and sampling the Mississippi and Nile Rivers.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Semmens of Colorado Springs, CO; sons, Craig (Val), Carlsbad, NM; Kelly, Glenwood, NM; and Kevin, Las Cruces, NM. Stepsons, Mike, Lloyd, Frank and Curtis Shaw; grandsons, Damon, Matt and Chase and four great-grandchildren, also surviving is his brother, Buell Cranston, Snohomish, WA; sisters Kathleen (Richard) Hester, Blacktown, Australia and Marilyn Hagan, Fort Worth, TX.
Celebration of Life will be held February 7th at 1pm at the South Hills Church, 3700 W 27th, Kennewick, WA.
