Augusta M. Bessert, 78, of River Hill Apartments, 1500 N. 3rd Street, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, Jan. 6, at her residence.
Private family funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Parkside Funeral Home. The Rev. Arno J. Wolfgramm will officiate with burial at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth.
Mrs. Bessert was born October 21, 1905, at Brillion, daughter of the late John and Anna Krueger Janke. She was employed at Cher-Make Meats, retiring in 1967. She married Martin Bessert June 9, 1922, at Brillion. He preceded her in death June 12, 1965. Mrs. Bessert was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Geraldine Bessert of Manitowoc, Kenneth and Peggy Bessert of Valders,and LeRoy and Pauline Bessert of Tucson, Arizona; two daughters and a son-in-law, Florence and Gerald Steffen of Neenah, and Diane Crowe of Manitowoc; a brother, Henry Janke of Reedsville, a sister, Mrs. Emma Koch of Chilton; 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcella Green; a sister, Martha Herzog; four brothers, Edward, Emil, William and Albert Janke.
There will be no Sunday evening visitation. Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Fund in her name has been established.
