Della (Helgeson) Berkedal, age 82 of Manitowoc, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

Della was born May 1, 1932 in Manitowoc daughter of the late Nels Marcus and Ruth Louise (Schmiedicke) Hansen. She attended schools in Manitowoc graduating with the class of 1950 from Lincoln High School. She then attended the University of Wisconsin Madison graduating in 1954 earning a Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics. On September 12th 1953 she married Donald Helgeson in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1976. On September 19, 1987 she married Kenneth Berkedal in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2002. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Church Council, Board of Property and Board of Deacons. Della was also a past member of the PEO Chapter J and Junior Service League. For many years she served and was past chairman of the Election Inspection Sixth Aldermanic District. Della was a substitute teacher for the Manitowoc Public School District for many years and also was co-owner of Needles-N-Things. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, sewing and doing needle crafts. She especially enjoyed going up to McCaslin Lake with family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Karin (Mick) Jaeger, Manitowoc; Connie (Bill) Check, Branch; Kathy (Rick) Kinzel, Cato; 11 grandchildren: Cari McLean, Manitowoc; Christy Jaeger and her fiancé: Daniel Miller, Manitowoc; Dayna Jaeger and her special friend: Adam Shavlik, Manitowoc; Adam (Miranda) Check, Manitowoc; Brandon Check, Branch; Courtney (Brandon) Platten, Valders; Andy (Anna) Siebert, Waukesha, Sara (Mike) Gordon, Newton; Jenny Siebert and special friend Erik Gordon, Manitowoc; Eric Kinzel, Cato; Katelyn Kinzel, Cato; 8 great grandchildren: Owen; Gabriella; Grace; Kellen; Claire; Johnny; Jimmy and Jacob; son-in-law: Randy Siebert, Manitowoc, three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Janice (Alvin) Schuetz, FL; James (Patricia) Helgeson, GA; Joanne (Larry) Mullins, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Donald; and Husband Kenneth; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Gordon and Olivia Helgeson; granddaughters husband: Eric McLean; one brother: Nels Hansen.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, 521 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Roald Harswick will officiate burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name would be appreciated.
