Our Toe Headed Boy

He was just a little toe headed boy, at the time I saw him last. He will always be that way to me. My memories are of the past.

I remember that little smile on his face, that was covered all over with dirt. His skipping and jumping at a fast pace. It's a wonder he didn't get hurt.

He was the youngest; that was born of four, this toe headed boy of ours. He was rowdy and rough and would tear down the door; just to play outside for hours.

This child could get into more trouble then most. But he stayed to himself more than the others. He was a loner, later he would boast. He was the quite and the laid back brother.

Though only twenty-five; He grew up a fine young man. To protect and to serve had become, his major lifelong plan. He worked hard and became a man of the law. To be a State Trooper was the future he saw.

But the Lord had a plan for our little toe headed boy. Though we don't understand just why. He needed an Angel that he could deploy; To protect another little toe headed guy.

What we know now, if we had known then; We would be freer with our kisses and hugs. We would know where we're going instead of where we've been. We would gather more kisses from our toe headed Buggs.

Buggs is now in Heaven; He's earned his badge and wings. He is part of God's most special flock; doing important things. He patrols with Jesus, God's streets of gold. But to me, he will always be just a toe headed boy; who will never, ever grow old.
