LCDR James Edward Brashear, Jr. sailed on his final voyage on December 25, 2014, in Escondido, California. Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1930 and joined the U.S. Navy after high school. During his 27-year military career, Jim earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees, and served a combat tour in South Vietnam.
After retiring from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, he enjoyed civilian careers with SEACOR and Raytheon. Jim traveled the world with the Navy, but San Diego was his home for over 55 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia A. Brashear (Lynch), their eight children, 19 grandchildren, five great- grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Jim's life will be celebrated in a memorial on January 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. at The Veterans Museum and Memorial Center, 2115 Park Blvd., San Diego, California. The family is grateful for the care shown to Jim by the professionals at Scripps Clinic, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Palomar Medical Center, Atria North Escondido, and Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center or any cancer research or prevention program. Published in U-T San Diego on Jan. 16, 2015
