Artis Chastain, 90, of Marietta, husband of the late Sarah Canham Chastain, passed away Friday evening at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Bertha Masters Chastain. He retired after 45 years as the barber at the Slater mill village, was a Navy Veteran of WWII where he served on the aircraft carrier, Lake Champlain, member of Slater-Marietta Lions Club, and was an active member of Slater Baptist Church. He and his longtime friend, Brock Adams, were the founders of the Blue Ridge Water Works, which now serves a large segment of northern Greenville County.

He is survived by his daughter: Dorothy Jean Cantrell (Don); sons: Dennis Chastain (Jane), David Chastain (Patricia); grandchildren: John and Laurie Chastain; brothers: Garvin Chastain and Carlee Chastain.

Along with his parents and wife he was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10 until 11 am at The Howze Mortuary.

Funeral services will be at 11 am at The Howze Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
