Daughter of the late Charles Ott and Mary Ruff Davis, and the widow of Brooks A. Broome. She was predeceased by a son, Neil Broome; brother, Eugene Davis and long-time friend, Wright M. (W.M.) Collins. Her husband, who was retired from the U.S. Navy after 28 years of meritorius service to his country, preceded her in death in 1969.

She attended schools in Parkersburg, WV and graduated in June, 1939. She was a registered nurse having graduated at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. Upon graduation from nurses' training, she received her commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD from 1942-1943. From 1948-1961, she was a floor supervisor at Columbia Hospital, Columbia, SC. She then graduated from Draughons Business College in Columbia in 1962 with a degree in business administration. She moved to Florence in 1964 to work as an Industrial Nurse at SC Industries (now Stone Container), retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
