Spanish-American War Veteran. The son of Civil War veteran Lt. Louis J. Ladner, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Spanish-American War, being commissioned May 11, 1898 and being mustered out on October 25, 1898.

He was also a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, serving on the staffs of Generals Robert P. Dechert and John W. Small.

He was a prominent businessman, working in real estate and with the Commonwealth Trust Company.
