Giles Norman Bennett of Winchester, a long-time businessman in the city, died at Methodist Hospital of Middle Tennessee February 18 after an apparent heart attack. He was 50.
Until his death, Bennett was the co-owner and operator with the late Bill Brown of the Franklin County Lumber Company on First Avenue, SW and an active worker at Harris Chapel Methodist Church.
He was born in Franklin County February 18, 1935 to the late Steven King and Delton Marie Stewart Bennett.
Services were at Moore-Cortner Chapel in Winchester on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J. W. Graham officiating. Interment was in Harris Chapel Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Edna Renegar Bennett; two daughters, Anita Tinsley of Tullahoma and Allison Bennett of Estill Springs; two stepdaughters, Jackie Puryear of Estill Springs and Jenita Stines of Winchester; a stepson, Chad Stines of Winchester; three sisters, Mary Etta Bauer and Alfreida Damron, both of Winchester, and Ethel Stephens of Lynchburg; five brothers, Steve Bennett and Stewart Bennett, both of Atlanta, Georgia, Lawrence Bennett of Manchester, Georgia, Nonda Bennett of Winchester, and Earl Bennett of Nashville; and two grandchildren.
