PANAMA - Joseph Edward Williams 75, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 in Panama. He was born in Nash County on January 8, 1940 to the late Merle Williams and Lela D. Langley. He entered the military in 1957 and retired in 1979. During his military career, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Joe served his country in Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Panama. He went on to retire from the Civil Service. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Tirsa Marie Williams of Panama, sons Joe and wife Margie Williams of Burgaw, NC, Walter and wife Angela Williams, grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew and Natalie Williams of Hartsville, SC, daughters Michaela Baca, grandchildren Janelle, Marisa and Angelo Baco of Tulsa OK, Theresa Cooke and grandchildren Alexia and Patrick Cooke of Austin, TX, Angela Williams and husband Monico Moreno and grandchildren Josh, Clarissa and Esperanza of Georgetown, TX., step daughter Lisa and husband Roberto Gomez, grandchildren Isabella Sofia and Manuel Ignacio all of Panama. Joe is also survived by his sister Lela Tharrington and husband Harry of Rocky Mount. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the home of Cecil and Betty Capps.
