Julia Mae Meeker, 98, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Ava, was born March 11, 1905, in Kansas City, and died August 23, 2003, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Smithville. Julia Mae attended grade school in Mansfield, Mo., and graduated from Ava High School in 1922. Preceding her in death were her husband, Russell W. Meeker; two sons, Donald Meeker, Russell Garry Meeker and grandson Stephen Meeker. Survivors include two sons, Charles Arthur Meeker of Novato, Calif., and Behan W. Meeker of Kansas City; two grandsons, Russell Meeker and Richard K. Meeker; three granddaughters, Carol Ann McLain, Donna Babbette Golden, and Pamala Lynn Blake; and 12 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, August 30, in Ava Cemetery, Ava, under direction of White Chapel Funeral Home, Gladstone. Memorial donations may be made to Douglas County Museum.
