Obituary for Sidney Thomas Wynkoop,

Mr. Sidney Thomas Wynkoop, 60, of Plainville passed away Saturday February 7, 2015 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.

Sidney was born September 14, 1954 in New Britain, a son of the late Margaret (Holden) Wynkoop and John T. Wynkoop, Sr.

He was a longtime Plainville resident, and a 1973 graduate of Plainville High School where he was a member of the Swing Sixteen singing group and in the Masque and Gown Club.

He was a member of the Golden Crusaders Drum Corps in which he played the bass drum.

Sidney worked as an Assembler at General Electric for many years and also worked for a short time at Bristol Manufacturing.

He loved physical activities including roller skating and dancing, snowmobiling, ice skating and skiing. Sidney was also a car and motorcycle enthusiast and took great pride in his vehicles, entering some in competitions.

He volunteered at the Hospital of Central Connecticut and was a longtime member of the Plainville Volunteer Fire Company. Sidney was a member of Redeemer’s AME Zion Church as well as Grace Lutheran Church both in Plainville.

Sidney’s family would like to thank the nurses and particular staff members for the special loving care they gave Sidney at Apple Rehab in Plainville, where he resided for the past four years.

Sidney leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law, John T. Wynkoop, Jr. and Louise of Texas, Edgar A. Wynkoop and Kathleen of Plainville, his sisters, Sharon (Wynkoop) Corlette of Plainville and Dr. Margaret W. Musgrove of Baltimore. A loving step-mother, Maria Wynkoop, a Goddaughter, Rhonda Wentworth, a Godson, Jason Corlette, many nieces, nephews great nieces and great nephews.

Family and friends may gather at the Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad Street in Plainville on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a service in celebration of Sidney’s life beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be held privately in Plainville West Cemetery.
