Weogufka, AL - Funeral service for Betty "Sunny" Kay Roberson, 68, will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL.
Mrs. Roberson died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. She was born in Gadsden, AL.
Mrs. Roberson was preceded in death by her parents, L.M. "Slim" and Edna Hixson.
Mrs. Roberson lost a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was a graduate of Sylacauga High School and attended East St. Louis University where she obtained her certification in Laboratory Technology. She worked at Huntsville Hospital and Sylacauga Hospital in the lab before joining her husband at Royal Tire where she worked for 26 years before she retired to stay at home with grandchildren.
Sunny grew up at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. She, David and their children were members of First United Methodist Church.
Sunny was an active member of the Sylacauga Jaycettes where she served as a local and state officer along with her husband, David.
As her children were growing up, she was very involved in the Sylacauga Swim Team, Jenny McGhee School of Dance (as a dance instructor), the Half Million Dollar Marching Band Boosters at SHS, and the football boosters at SHS. She also served as a volunteer in the Sylacauga City School System and served as president of many school parent teacher organizations as her children were growing up. Her greatest love was being a wife and mother until she had grandchildren to which she was affectionately known as Nana.
Later in life Sunny developed a love for horses with a focus on Tennessee Walking horses. She was an active member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association participating in a number of shows each season.
She is survived by her husband, David Roberson; daughter, Laura Roberson Strickland, husband Barry; son, Scott Roberson, wife Buffy; grandchildren, Makenzie Roberson, Stephen Strickland, Connor Roberson and Lane Strickland.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship or the Sylacauga City School Foundation.
