Nephie C. Aas, 86, of Albany died Thursday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

She was born on Jan. 13, 1920, in Greenbush, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Norma (Thrane) Svegdahl. She was raised in Greenbush and attended schools there.

She married Gilman L. Aas in Greenbush on Oct. 18, 1940. Together they operated a restaurant and hotel until 1942, when they moved to Tacoma, Wash. They returned to Greenbush before moving to Albany in 1947. Nephie worked as a quality control supervisor for Van Camps Frozen Foods before retiring in 1980.

She was a longtime and very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and truly loved being with her children and grandchildren.

Nephie is survived by son Gary Aas of Portland; daughter Janice Tarbet of Eugene; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Norman Svegdahl of Greenbush.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at noon Monday at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home (www.aasum-dufour.com).

Nephie C. Aas, 86, of Albany died Thursday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
