Evelyn was born the last of 9 children to Anthony Konefe and Josephine Kreft. In later years, she would tell stories of how her dad never called her by her name; he always called her, 'Baby." She married Howard in Detroit at St. Josaphat Catholic Church on June 8, 1940. They had 2 children.
