The oldest man present was A. C. McSwain, father of former Sheriff McSwain, and a resident of California for 75 years. He was unable to deliver his address in person, but David Peckinpah spoke for him. Mr. McSwain came overland by ox team from Missouri in 1854 when he was 19 years old, and settled on the Merced river. He has lived in this county since 1910..."
