She was the daughter of Frank and Katharine "Kate" (Swartzel) Blackford. She graduated in 1928 from Monroe High School, Monroe Twp, Preble County, Ohio. She was married to Glenn H. Laird on November 24, 1955, Preble County, Ohio, whom she shares a headstone.

Martha A. Laird, 79, of 341 N. Maple St., Eldorado, died Friday, Feb 16, at Sarasota Hospital in Sarasota, Fla., after suffering a massive stroke Feb. 11. She and her husband were spending the winter in Florida.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Kate Blackford of Eldorado. She was retired from Alcoa Products in Richmond, Ind., and was a member of Eldorado Universalist Church and the Eldorado Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn H. Laird; one sister, Helen L. Brown of Lewisburg; three nephews, John M. Blackford of Concord, N.H., Richard J. Brown of Eldorado, and Michael J. Brown of Tucson, Ariz.; three nieces, Georgia A. Helton and Nancy Haddix of Dayton and Elizabeth Bilbrey of Tulsa, Okla.; great nieces and nephews.
A brother, John B. Blackford, died in Sarasota in August 1989, and a sister, Grace Helton, died in December 1989 at Friendship Village in Dayton.
Following cremation in Florida, her ashes will be returned to Ohio for a memorial service at a later time at the Eldorado Universalist Church.

She was born in Eldorado and spent most of her life there. She was retired from Aluminum Company of America, Richmond, Ind., was a member of the Eldorado Unitarian-Universalist Church, the Eaton County Club and the Eldorado Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn of Eldorado; one sister, Helen L. Brown of Lewisburg; three nieces, Elizabeth Bilbrey of Oklahoma City, Okla., Georgia A. Henderson of Englewood and Nancy Haddix of Springboro; three nephews, John M. Blackford of Concord, N.H., Michael J. Brown of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard Brown of Eldorado; several great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Eldorado Unitarian-Universalist Church.
All family and friends are invited to an informal visiting hour following the services. Bussard- Barnes Funeral Home, Eldorado, is in charge of local arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
