Maxine C. Bebb, 87, of Pittsburg, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Bozeman, Mont., to Gus Robert and Bertha Crouse Carlson.

She attended Springhill rural school, Gallatin County High School, Montana State University, and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, where she earned a degree in Christian Education. Following graduation, she worked as director of Christian education at the First Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach, Fla.

On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Aldon M. Bebb in West Plam Beach. He survives of the home.

They moved to Greeley, Colo. where she worked as a youth director at the First Presbyterian Church. They lived in Superior, Wis., for three years.

The next two years were spent at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

In 1953, they moved to Pittsburg, where she taught in the Intensive English program at PSU for several years, retiring in 1986. She and her husband hosted many foreign student in their home over the years.

She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, clerk of session, and in all areas of women's work and Christian education, and board of deacons. She was also a Sunday school teacher. She was a trained Stephens Minister and expanded the ministry within the church. She had been a member of the Pittsburg Public Library Board, Advisory Council of Timmons Chapel, Friends of International Student Board, League of Women Voters, and a member and former president of Pittsburg State University Faculty Wives Club. She spent many years as a Girl Scout leader, and made three trips with troops to the International Girl Scout Center in Mexico. She also served on the Girl Scout Council Board.

Survivors include one son, James R. Bebb of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Beth Herman of Olathe and Margaret Neil of Pittsburg; one brother, G.R. Carlson of Bethel, Wash.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Roberta Holdsworth; and a brother, Carl Carlson.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. K.O. Noonoo officiating.

Private family burial will precede the services in the Highland Park Cemetery.

Following the services at the church, the family will receive friends in the church parlor.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary to sign the register.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. Fourth St., Pittsburg.
