Howard Leroy Alexander graduated in 1946 from Ottumwa High School, He was first chair in the orchestra playing the violin that his great grandmother Sally Alexander had once played. He joined the Army Engineers as a draftsman in 1947-48. After he got out of the service he went to work as a draftsman for the Burlington railroad in Chicago. He also worked in the in the signal department in Minnesota until his death in 1974. He was married 4 times and had two daughters. - Bio by brother Harry.

Howard Leroy Alexander, 47, of Shoreview, Minn., and a former Ottumwan, died Monday in a Minnesota hospital. he was a 25 year employee of the Burlington Northern- Railroad, serving as a planning engineer in the signal department at the time of his death.

Born Jan. 28, 1929, in Chariton, he was a 1946 Ottumwa High School Graduate and served in the Army engineers. Surviving are his mother Mrs. W. E. Alexander of Ottumwa, his widow of Shoreview; one daughter; two grandchildren; and one brother Harry Alexander of Ottumwa.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Roseville Memorial Chapel in Roseville, Minn. with burial in Veterans National Cemetery in Fort Snelling.
