Mr. Berg was my piano teacher when I began taking lessons at the age of 10. In 1970 and 1971, Mr. Berg was my music professor when I attended the Sheboygan County Teachers College.

The last time I saw him was in June of 2005, when he was the soloist at a funeral I attended. At the time he was 88 years old and I was amazed at his strong and beautiful voice. Now Mr. Berg is making beautiful music in Heaven.

He was born April 25, 1917 in Jamestown, North Dakota, the son of the late Elmer and Mary Ann (Danner) Berg.

On December 19, 1942, he married Lorraine B. Zajicek at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Mr. Berg graduated from St. John's Cathedral Grade School and Washington High School in Milwaukee. He earned the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Milwaukee State Teachers College, Master of Music Education at Northwestern University, and Master of Arts in Music at the University of Minnesota.

During World War II he served in the 24th Regiment of the 4th Marine Division where he suffered a permanent back injury.

He taught high school band and vocal at three Wisconsin high schools: Wilton, Waunakee, and Verona. In 1960 he and his family moved to Sheboygan Falls where, for twelve years, he taught music at the Sheboygan County Teachers College. When that college closed, he joined the staff at Lightfoot School where he taught music for five years. In 1977 he retired from teaching school but continued to teach piano privately, which, except for the 3 ½ years in the USMC, he had been doing steadily since 1935.

In 1978 he took employment with the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation in Sheboygan where he worked as meter reader and assistant credit manager for four years.

Bill was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls and a choir member there since 1960. In the Knights of Columbus, he served as Deputy Grand Knight in St. Mary's Council 11129 and as a Trustee of Sheboygan's Monsignor Dreis 4th Degree Assembly and a member of that Assembly's Honor Guard.
