He was the aerial engineer aboard a C-54 transport plane that disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean in 1947. The crew were experienced and capable, but something caused the plane to disappear and apparently fall into the ocean. No bodies nor any identifiable traces of the plane were ever found, though pieces belonging to the same type of plane were found offshore. Bagocus was survived by his parents, a brother, his wife, and an unborn daughter.
