Chris was born September 26, 1924, in Louisville, Kentucky, the youngest of three children, to Albert and Gerlena Hooker.
Following her father’s untimely death, she and two younger sisters were raised by her mother and stepfather, Tom C. Martin. Chris moved from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to San Diego, California, where she worked at Rohr Aircraft during WWII. At the end of the war, she moved to San Jose, California, where she married and raised her three children, Freddie, Cheryl and Lynda.
In 1975, she met and married Erby Tate. They traveled extensively thoughout the U.S. and Canada before settling in Roseburg in 1992.
Survivors include her daughters Cheryl Quinn and her husband Jeff of Roseburg, Lynda Salazar and her husband Abel of San Diego, California; stepdaughter Naoma Cummins of Shady Cove, Oregon; sister Tomosa Ann Martin and Kirk Phillips of Proctor, Texas; sister-in-law Bonnie Duer of Santa Rosa, California; Seven grandchildren Kimberly Hazlett, Wythenia Cruz, Jacqueline Conner, Michael Salazar, Clayton Quinn, Stephanie Salazar and Abby Fisher; seventeen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Chris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and good friend to many. She will be truly missed by all and will live in our hearts forever.
Graveside services will be held Monday, February 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Memorial Park 1700 Pleasant Hill Road, Sebastopol, California.
