John F. Diedrich, 89, of the Galena-Stauss Assisted Living Center, Galena, IL, and formerly of Scales Mound, IL, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Midwest Medical Center, in Galena. (Dad joined Mom in Heaven on his birthday).

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A/M, on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Apple River, IL, with Fr. David Reese, Fr. Andrew Skrobutt, and Fr. Joji Reddy concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Friday, February 27, 2015, and from 10 A/M to 10:45 A/M, on Saturday, at St. Joseph's Church, in Apple River, where the parish rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M.

The Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, of Scales Mound, is in charge of arrangements.

John was born on February 22, 1926, near DeKalb, IL, the son of Fred L. and Clara (Driscoll) Diedrich. He was a graduate of DeKalb Township High School, Class of 1943. He married Donna M. Groves, on April 30, 1949, at St. Mary's Church, in DeKalb. She preceded him in death of May 24, 2014.

John's vocation in life was farming. His life was guided by his Catholic faith. He was an amazing story teller. John enjoyed cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snow tubing at the age of 80, making doll houses, and watching the birds. He was an avid rose gardener, a weather man and a great hugger. He was a member of the FFA organization along with each of his sons. John's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Surviving are his children, Jean (Paul) Wigart, of Powder Springs, GA, John M. (Melanie) Diedrich, of Sycamore, IL, Steven (Lynnette) Diedrich, of Gratiot, WI, David (Sue) Diedrich, of Scales Mound, IL, Joseph (Lisa) Diedrich, of Shullsburg, WI, Susan (Bill) Corley, of Shullsburg, WI, George (Patricia) Diedrich, of Sycamore, IL, and Arthur (Peggy) Diedrich, of Shullsburg, WI; twenty (20) grandchildren, Sarah, Christine, Rebecca, Chamberlin, Jennifer, Hannah, Jason, John Paul, Angeline, Jeremiah, Brian, Katherine, Jack, Leslie, Mariah, Joshua, Erik, Courtney, Mary and Ryan; thirteen (13) great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Jane Bastian, of DeKalb, IL, Margie (Roger) Mohrman, of Quincy, IL, and Eleanor (Burton) Rempfer, of DeKalb, IL.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; siblings, Mary Margaret (Oliver) Carpenter, Loras (Doria) Diedrich, Robert (late wife, Gwyn) and (Phyllis) Diedrich, Arthur Diedrich, and Eileen (Cal) Gillen.

John's family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff from Hospice of Dubuque, Midwest Medical Center, Galena-Stauss Assisted Living Center and Dr. Greg Vandigo, for the the excellent care provided to their father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
