JOSEPH W. SEIFERT, 91, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, November 01, 2005 at 10:49 a.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Born in Barberton on June 28, 1914, he had lived in Alliance since 1941. After obtaining a degree in metallurgical engineering from Ohio State University in 1938, Mr. Seifert was employed by the Babcock and Wilcox Company. He retired in 1979 from the company�s research and development division after 41 years of service as a Metallurgical Engineer.
Mr. Seifert was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church where he had served as a lay Eucharistic Minister for the nursing homes. He was a lifetime member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was a member of SNDT (The Society of Non-destructive Testing) and a lifetime member of ASM (The American Society of Metals). A lifetime amateur photographer, Joe continued his interest through the Canton Camera Club. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was also a skilled woodworker and made personalized gifts for his friends and family.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Betreva M. (Shields) Seifert, whom he married on November 15, 1941; a daughter, Mary E. (Irwin) Kirsch of Yardley, PA: two sons, Thomas J. Seifert of Oakland, CA, and Joseph W. (Sue) Seifert, Jr. of Grayling, MI; four grandchildren, Michael (Mary) Seifert, Jacob Kirsch, Gwen Seifert, and Sara Kirsch; and a great-grandson, Dylan Seifert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Elizabeth (Beichlin) Seifert; three sisters, Alice Sundberg, Virginia Brown, and Eleanor Willmot; and four brothers, Herbert, Orold, Paul, and Emil Seifert.
The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5, 2005, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev.
