Liver ailment claims James Bolo
James F. Bolon, 59, a lifelong resident of the Lewiston area and a retired maintenance man at the Potlatch Corp. pulp mill, died of a liver ailment at St. Joseph's Hospital at 2:10 Wednesday afternoon.
He had been ill for two weeks. His home was at 610 8th St.
Bolon was a former ambulance driver and later drove a cab for the Yellow Cab Co. at Lewiston until 1953 when he began working for Potlatch.
He was born in Kendrick on May 12, 1917, to Ira Bolon and Lillian Leah (De Ford) Bolon. While still a child he moved with his parents to Lewiston, where he attended school and grew to manhood. He joined the National Guard in 1940 and served as a private in the 148th Field Artillery unit in Idaho.
He served as a pharmacist's mate on a destroyer in the Navy during World War II. He was discharged in December 1945, after more than three years of service in the Pacific.
He married Shirley Thomas in Montana on Feb. 14, 1951. She survives at the family home.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge at Clarkston.
Also, surviving are two sisters, Gayle Gribble of Gifford and Cleota Gardner of Port Orchard, Wash.
A committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Normal Hill Cemetery by Lewis-Clark post of the American Legion. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
