Maria Carmin Gomez, the two year old girl who fell into a septic tank, was removed from the ventilator that had been providing oxygen to her organs, after her heart, liver and kidneys were donated.

Her mother, Antonia Veronica Gomez and the rest of her family gathered at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in Alice to recite the Rosary in Maria's memory. A funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph Cathoilc Church followed by interment at Collin-Roberson Cemetery, both in Alice.

Police officials were called to the Ingleside home to search for Maria after her mother couldn't find her. Maria's grandfather, Victor Gomez, found her submerged headfirst in an abandonded septic tank located about 25 feet from the front door of their home. She never regained consciousness.

The little girl who received her liver was on the brink of death and might not have lived another day without the transplant.
