Robert William Lowers, of Hermitage, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, in Visiting Nurses Association Inpatient Care Facility, Butler, following an extended illness. He was 65.
Robert was born Nov. 23, 1949, in Natrona Heights, Pa., a son of William and Betty McCann Lowers.
He graduated from Freeport Senior High School, Buffalo Township, Butler County. He later obtained his associate’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.
A decorated war veteran, he served with the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Regulus. The Regulus was part of the Pacific fleet, was grounded on a reef during a typhoon and was retired due to its severe damages.
Robert held various employment positions over the years and most recently worked in the deli department at Community Supermarket in Blawnox, Allegheny County.
He was a member of Beth Emanuel Fellowship Ministries, Sharon.
Robert enjoyed fishing in years past when his health permitted.
His wife, the former Diane R. Pickholtz, whom he married Dec. 22, 2002, survives at home.
He also is survived by three stepdaughters, two sons, two brothers, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
