Cousin and friend, Frieda Emma Weishaupt 1914 - 2012, has contributed to photos and family history. In 1984 she gave to me Casper's army discharge certificate which provided all the key information to find the Malsch family. We visited Malsch many times and found help from our family living there. Casper Jacob Weishaupt was born 24 Oct 1856 in Malsch, Baden, Germany. Casper was baptized 26 Oct 1856 in the St Cyriak Catholic Church of Malsch; parents Florian Weishaupt and Barbara Bechler.
Martha Amalie Belz was born 24 July 1865 in Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg, Prussia. Martha was baptized 20 August 1865 in the Evangelist Protestant Lutheran Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church), Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg, Prussia; parents Karl Friedrich Adolph Belz and Johanne Theresse Christiane Abraham. Her family for generations have lived in Thomsdorf, Templin, Brandenburg, Germany. (84982593 & 84982594)
Casper emigrated from Germany in 1879, maybe through Canada and then to the United States. Canadian ports generally used by German immigrants were Quebec City and Halifax. The emigration of Casper has not been found recorded.
We find an April 9, 1881 emigration record that we identify as our Martha; departing Bremen & Southampton arriving New York on SS Oder with Captain C. Undütsch. She is with her family; father Adolph age 46, mother Theresa 42, Martha 16, brother Adolph 13, sister Emma 7, sister Agnes 10 months old.
In 1882, Martha's father, Adolph Belz, and her husband, Casper Weishaupt, are listed in the very same Detroit City Directory, both working as carpenters and joiners at the Pullman Palace Car Company and both living at 259 Mullett Street. Casper meets Martha in Detroit during the 15 months after her emigration in April of 1881 and before the marriage in August of 1882.
A marriage record of August 12, 1882 for Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan shows the marriage of Casper Wei(ss)haupt age 26 and Martha Belz age 17.
The family was known to still be in Detroit with the birth of Walter on 3 July 1883.
Then Casper was in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio with the birth of Casper James, June 4, 1885. We find that Martha's family to be in Dayton in 1900 and earlier.
On moving to Buffalo, New York, as a carpenter, he worked on the family house at 70 Wood Street. They were in Buffalo by October 8, 1887 with the birth of George.
Emma was born Feb 23, 1889 in Buffalo, New York.
Edward was born Jul 28, 1890 in Buffalo, New York.

Casper's father, Florian, died in Feb 14, 1895 in Baden, Germany. We believe he might have returned to Malsch to visit his parents the prior year.
Casper's first wife, Martha Belz dies Mar 27, 1896 in Buffalo, New York. Her age was 30 years 8 months 3 days. We have never found her burial site.
Casper remarries Ludovica (also named in records as Lovina and Elizabeth) Jansen on 30 April 1898 at St. Mary Of Sorrows, Buffalo, Erie, New York, Groom's Father's Name: Floriani Weishaupt, Groom's Mother's Name: Barbarae Bechler, Bride's Father's Name: Lamberti Jansen, Bride's Mother's Name: Adelheid Meyer.
The NY census of 1900 for the City of Buffalo recorded Casper and Lovina, his 2nd wife of 2 years, living at 70 Wood Street. At this time there were 11 children living in the house. Hattie Schlienz on St Joseph St and Frank Weishaupt on Wood St grew up within six blocks of each other.
We find Martha's parents in the 1900 census for Dayton City. It records the Belz family living at 109 Ware Avenue; Adolph, Theresa, son-in-law William Anglert and Agnes Anglert with child Irwin Anglert.
The 1905 census for Buffalo at 70 Wood Street recorded; Casper a cabinet maker and Lovina 2nd wife along with the family.
The 1907 record for the marriage of son George and Theresa Kater records; Casper Weishaupt father, Marthae Bells, mother.
Helen was born in 1908 in Buffalo to his second wife Elizabeth whom he married in 1898. The births of all nine children have been documented by copies obtained of his personal notes.
The NY census of 1910 for the City of Buffalo records Casper Jacob and Elizabeth, 2nd wife of 12 years. Elizabeth reported having 4 children - Helen and 3 others from a previous marriage which were recorded in the 1900 census but apparently not with them in 1910. Elizabeth dies shortly after the 1910 census on 30 Oct 1910.
The 1915 census for Buffalo records Casper Weishaupt living with son William. They were living alone together at 70 Wood Street.

The NY census of 1920 for Buffalo documented Casper at 70 Wood Street with son Walter. Casper reported having emigrated in 1879 and became naturalized in 1886.
Casper James took possession of the Wood Street house in 1924 and Casper Jacob died the next year, 11 Feb 1925 after suffering a stoke. His son Walter was the source of information for the certification of death and stated that Casper's wife's name was Martha Bels.
