Otto John Roberts was born to Otto John Roberts and Elsetta (DeLong) Roberts on September 6th, 1917 at his family's farmstead in Cherry County, just outside of Gordon, Nebraska. He died on December 20th, 2002 at Gordon Memorial Hospital.

Otto attended country school as a child and graduated from Gordon High School in 1936. He was a talented football player, and was offered athletic scholarships from several collages, although family hardship kept him from attending college. After high school, he worked at a variety of jobs.On April 16th, 1940. he married Beatrice Grace " Mickey" Bollen at the courthouse in Rushville, Nebraska. The couple lived in Gordon and had two sons John, and Jerry. From 1944-46, the family lived in Ainsworth, Nebraska, where Otto was employed as a butcher. In 1946, the family returned to Gordon and ran the Bus Lunch; then took over operation of the Gordon Café in 1948. In 1952, they opened their own business, "Otto's and Mickey's" on Highway 20 in Gordon. The restaurant was widely known for it's broasted chicken and potato salad. Otto and Mickey operated the business until 1978, when the restaurant was destroyed by a tornado. Otto then attended auctioneering school in Kansas City, opened Western Nebraska Auction Company, and earned his real estate license.

Otto was active in the community, and served as mayor from 1968 to 1970. He was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Gordon and active in the Masonic Lodge as well. Otto enjoyed walking, gardening, drawing, bowling, fishing and golfing.

* I also would like to add that Uncle Otto had a great sense of humor!
