Marion L. Connaughton, 96, of Bonita, California, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015. Marion has been a resident in the Bonita and Chula Vista area since 1948.

Marion and her husband William were married for 51 years before his passing in 1992. Marion was very proud to call herself a career US Navy wife and mother. While her husband served in WW II and the Korean War's, Marion worked as a Registered Nurse at San Diego's Balboa Naval Hospital. Upon Williams's retirement from the US Navy, Marion joined the Nursing staff at Chula Vista Community Hospital and later Mercy Hospital in San Diego. Marion's proudest professional accomplishments were assisting in the births of her two grandsons William and Robert. Marion retired from Nursing after 42 years.

During retirement, Marion and William enjoyed parenthood, being grandparents, international travel, deep-sea fishing, camping in the California Desert and Baja, sailing the Pacific and Caribbean Oceans and indulging an occasional Dirty Martini or good California White Wine.

Always wanting stay productive and continue to honor her husband and the San Diego area military communities, Marion was a volunteer staff member with the Navy and Marine Corp Relief Society, she served in this role for 14 years. Marion was also a long-term volunteer for the San Diego Chapter of M.A.D.D., Chula Vista Humane Society and Friends of Cats in El Cajon, California.

In her free time, Marion enjoyed Quilting. As her craft evolved, she received international recognition. Her quilts have been displayed at the Museum of San Diego History and toured internationally with Treasures Underfoot. She was a contributing member of the San Diego and Chula Vista Quilters Guild.

Marion is proceeded in death by her husband William T. Connaughton (Bill) and daughter Joyce M. Fenlon, both resided in the San Diego area. Grandsons William E. Scott-Fenlon of San Diego and Robert E. Scott-Fenlon of Frisco, Texas, great grandsons William and Landon of San Diego, Nephews Richard and Robert Joyce of Nevada and her beloved cat Missy all survive her.

Marion lived a long and fulfilling life, she will be missed by family, friends and Missy. Marion surviving family is comforted that in her passing, she will join those who have gone before her that she has truly missed for so long.

Final interment will be Thursday, February 26, 2015, 10:30 AM at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery San Diego.
