Margaret, of Lansing, MI. passed away on March 1, 2015. “A life lived to the fullest” simply describes MARGARET JULIA De ROSE. She was born to Frank De Rose, Sr. and Teresa (Spadafore) De Rose. Margaret was one of eleven siblings. Never a dull moment!

Margaret attended elementary school in Flushing, and graduated from Holy Rosary High School in Detroit, Michigan.

Being one of the older children, Margaret worked in De Rose’s Candy Kitchen in Eaton Rapids after the family moved from the Flint area. A “people person” all of her life, Margaret worked at the J.W. Knapp Company; went on to work for the State of Michigan in different departments for thirty years, and retired in 1981 from the Department of Labor, Workman’s Compensation Insurance Division.

As a member of the Employees Retiree Association, Margaret traveled to Italy (her parents’ homeland) that same year. Margaret’s love of travel and her natural curiosity led her to many areas of the United States. Still adventuresome and always interested in education, Margaret went to work in the Registration Department for Lansing Community College, during which time she began to study and earned her Associates Degree in June of 1992 – an achievement which gave her much joy and satisfaction!

She became a very active member of the “Older Wiser Learners” at Lansing Community College and held the posts of Secretary, Vice President, and Acting President of the group.

Always a team player, Margaret enjoyed memberships in various groups: a Walking Club, Secular Order of St. Francis in DeWitt, the Lansing Chapter of the Legion of Mary, the Alpha Club of Lansing, and worked on the Lansing Township Board as an Election Inspector.

Besides all of her many accomplishments, Margaret was most proud to be a Catholic and was always active in her parish, St. Gerard. Described by many as a “prayer warrior”, you always knew where Margaret stood. She loved her God, her family, and her parish – so much so that she even became a Catechist for children at St. Gerard’s, and an elementary teacher-aide after receiving her Associates Degree.

Yes, Margaret had many interests and actively participated in several of them: reading, music, concerts, hobbies such as walking – as a nature lover, writing short stories and essays and many, many beautiful and thought-provoking poems. Her interests were far and wide – family, relatives, friends, children who adored her, students, the young and not-so-young.

Margaret was pre-deceased by Frank and Teresa De Rose (parents), Reverend Paul J. De Rose (brother), Paul and Jane De Rose (infant brother and sister), Mary Ann and Joseph Bobko (sister and brother-in-law), and Pauline Herring (sister), and Mary Virginia De Rose (sister). Surviving are: Terri Massaron (sister), John and Norma De Rose (brother), Josephine and Jack Henderson (sister), Catherine De Rose (sister-in-law), Ron Herring (brother-in-law), numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins – all so very precious to Margaret.

The family is most grateful for the care provided by the staff at Ingham County Medical Care Facility on Dobie Road, Okemos. Margaret enjoyed all of her caregivers and especially the activities provided – in particular, the musical activities.

A Rosary was recited at the Tiffany Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy was Tuesday, March 10, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Lansing with Fr. John P. Klein Presiding.

Margaret desired that any donations in her name be directed to St. Gerard Parish, the Greater Lansing Catholic Education Foundation, or the Bishop Joseph Albers Trust Fund for Diocesan Priests and Vocations.
