Panfilo DiFonzo, 94, of Downingtown, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015, at his home. He was the loving husband of Mary J. DiFonzo, with whom he had shared 56 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2000.

Born in Scerni, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Maria Moretti DiFonzo.

Mr. DiFonzo arrived from Scerni, Italy in 1930. He was a 1940 graduate of Downingtown High School. He then went on to proudly serve his country during W.W. II in the U. S. Army, earning the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon.

He was employed as an instrument mechanic for Downingtown Paper Company for 43 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church since his arrival in Downingtown in 1930, where he was involved with the Legion of Mary, the collection counters, the Green Team, and the Prime Timers. He was also a member of the Downingtown American Legion Post #475. Mr. DiFonzo loved living in Downingtown. Most of all, he was a loving, caring and thoughtful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Francis P. (Sharon) of Exton, Judith Ann Cazillo (Anthony) of Parkesburg, Anthony J. (Donna) of Downingtown, Paula M. Wyatt (Art) of Honey Brook, and Nicholas (Margaret) of West Henrietta, NY. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Donato DiFonzo, and by his sisters, Angela DiFonzo and Asunta Sabatini.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335. An evening visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
