Vernon E. Grupe

Grupe, Vernon E.Vernon E. Grupe, 85, former Town Centerville resident, went home to his Lord, Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Terrace Place in Sheboygan. Vernon was born May 7, 1929, in Town Centerville, the son of the late Herbert and Mabel Hetzel Grupe. He attended grade school in Town Centerville and graduated in 1947 from Central High School in Sheboygan. On May 24, 1952, Vernon was united in marriage to Carol Freis at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cleveland. The couple resided in Town Meeme and moved to the Grupe Homestead Farm in 1960. The marriage was blessed with four children. Vernon was employed by the Kohler Company, Kohler WI, for 36 years and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. Vernon was also, a lifelong member of St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a member of the church's Married Peoples Society. He was a very active member of the church, always ready to help when needed. Other memberships include, Melody Dancers, Cleveland Fish and Game as well as various card clubs. He enjoyed his family, friends, traveling, camping, gardening, and his orchard.

He is preceded in death by one grandson, Kurt Schneider, one daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Grupe, and one sister-in-law, Betty Grupe.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m, Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland. Pastor David Endorf will officiate and burial will follow at St. Johns Graveyard (Kassa Cemetery) in Town Centerville. Friends may call at the church on Friday, March 6, 2015, from 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel of Cleveland, is assisting the family with these funeral arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in Vernon's name for St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church and Manitowoc Lutheran High School.

The family of Vernon Grupe would like to express a heartfelt thanks to his care givers, Cindy Kraemer, Tender Hearts, Terrace Place, and St. Nicholas Hospice, for the love and care given to Vernon and to his family.
