Jenny von Gustedt, German author, was born Jeromée Catharina Rabe von Pappenheim at Gut Stammen (Stammen Manor) near Kassel. She was an illegitimate daughter of King Jerome Bonaparte and Diana Rabe von Pappenheim. (At the time of Jenny's birth, her mother was still the wife of Wilhelm Maximilian Rabe von Pappenheim.) As a girl she lived in various European cities, including Paris and Strassburg. She met Goethe, and was a friend of his son, August. She was a close friend of Augusta von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (later the wife of Kaiser Wilhelm I), and participated in court life. In 1838 she married Werner von Gustedt in Weimar. When he became the district administrator of Kreis Rosenberg, they moved to West Prussia. Their son was Cavalry Captain Otto von Gustedt. A granddaughter was the writer and suffragette Lily Braun. Jenny's own best writings were based on her memories of Goethe and the Bonapartes. (Adapted from the German Wikipedia.)
