Assmann, Ralph Roy

Ralph Roy Assmann, age 96, a near lifelong resident of 14611 Saxonburg Rd. Mishicot, was called to his eternal home on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Hamilton Care Center, of Two Rivers, after a brief 20 day stay and just prior to that he was a nine month resident at Harmony Living Center, of Two Rivers.

Ralph was born January 28, 1919, in the town of Mishicot, to the late Ira and Mary Gesser Assmann on the farm homestead. He was baptized into the Christian faith at home on November 30, 1919, and made his promise to his Lord in the rite of confirmation at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church on September 11, 1932, both by the late Reverend Edward Zell. Ralph graduated from the eight grade at Pleasant View Elementary School in the town of Mishicot on June 1, 1932, and from the Mishicot High School on May 22, 1936. After graduation he helped farm on the homestead and was a seasonal worker at the Hamilton Manufacturing Co. in Two Rivers for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Army from October 1942, where he received his basic training at Camp Benning in Georgia. Then he spent one year at Camp Hood, TX and six months at Camp Phillips, KS, where he was a military clerk. His remaining two years were at Camp Roberts, CA, where he was a supply sergeant and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1946. Ralph came home to help his parents and his brother Alfred with farming the homestead. In 1955, he and Alfred assumed ownership of the farm and worked together until the Lord called Alfred home in 2006. Both brothers also looked forward to having their late brother, Florian, assist them in farming during the busy season. The homestead farm was sold in the Spring of 2007 to his next door neighbor, Mark, along with holding an auction. The family farm became a century farm in 2004 and was awarded the Century Farm and Home Award at the Wisconsin State Fair in August 2007, at which time it was in the family for 103 years.

Ralph looked forward to company from his family, neighbors and friends, and taking rides throughout the countryside.

He is survived by his nephews, Douglas Assmann, of Waukesha; Jeffrey Assmann, of Elm Grove; James (Sue) Assmann, of East Troy; his nieces, godchild Karen (Chris) Spatola, of Milwaukee; godchild, Carol (Reuben) Stuebs, of Kewaunee; Audrey (Donald) Grant, of Kiel; and Pat Kobes, of Two Rivers. He is further survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Assmann, brother and sister-in-law, Florian and Jean Assmann, two sisters and one a brother-in-law, Alice Assmann and Adeline and John Kobes, a nephew, Allan Kobes and his first wife, Bonita Kobes.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot, with the Reverend Robert Johannes officiating, with entombment to follow in the Knollwood Mausoleum, Hwy. 310 Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call after Noon on Friday at the church, until the time of service at 1 p.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation. A memorial fund has been established for St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where Ralph was a lifetime member. Ralph's family would like to express their sincere thanks to Reverend Robert Johannes for his many visits and prayers, along with the congregational members for their visits the past years, especially after Ralph gave up driving during his 93rd. year. Special thanks also to Ron, Mark, Shari, and Shawn. We wish to commend the staff at Harmony and Hamilton Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion Ralph received while in their care. The Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home of Mishicot, is assisting the family with arrangements.
