John William Kelso, 82, of San Angelo, Texas died Friday, March 6, 2015. He was born May 10, 1932 in Solgohachia, Arkansas to Dr. Samuel Taylor Kelso and Mary Ethel Green Kelso.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Lee Kelso; two sisters, Dovie Jean Kelso Adams and Wilma LaVerne Kelso Sellers; one half-brother, Roy Kelso; four half-sisters, Viola Kelso Gist, Augusta Pearl Kelso Powell, Dora Mae Kelso Moore and Rubye Marie Greer Winslow.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Loyce Renfroe Kelso; son, John "Johnny" William Kelso II and his wife, Michele; granddaughter, Rene' Nichele Kelso; grandsons, Senjen and Clinton Browder; and two great-grandchildren.

John had been living at Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center in San Angelo for the past year and a half.

John joined the Army when he was eighteen years old, but when he scored so high on tests, the Air Force asked him if he would join them and he did. He obtained his GED while in the Air Force. His career field was in Radar and Electronics. After serving his country for twenty-one years, John began his second career, in 1971, with the Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas where he would stay for the next twenty-one years.

After retirement, John and Loyce enjoyed the nomad life of living and traveling in a 5th wheel travel trailer while pursuing their hobby of genealogy.

A Memorial Service was held Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo. Officiating was Paul Shero, preacher at Southgate Church of Christ.
