  Funeral services for Joseph Richard Slovak, 69, who died Thursday morning in his home at Glen Carbon, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist Church at Glen Carbon.
  Friends may call at the Weber Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Saturday until 10:30 a.m. Monday, when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the service.
  He was a retired coal miner.
  He was born April 18, 1902, at Glen Carbon Crossing and was a lifelong resident of the area.
  His parents were Joseph Richard and Barbara Slemer Slovak. He was married to Amelia Ricker, who survives, June 28, 1952 at Alton.
  Surviving besides his wife is a sister, Mrs. Augusta Carter of Chula Vista, Calif.
  His parents, two brothers and a son, Richard, preceded him in death. The son died in 1960.
  He served in the Army infantry in 1922-23 and in Illinois Reserve Militia for more than 20 years.
  He was a member of Laborers Local 474 at Glen Carbon and a former member of the Progressive Mine Workers of America. He retired 10 years ago.
