ONTARIO - Samuel P. Jones, Jr., 77, of Ontario, formerly of Gervais, died Sunday in a Boise, Idaho hospital.
He was born in Gervais, and farmed mint in the Gervais area. In 1947, he married Esther Moen in Portland. He moved to Ontario in the 1950's. He worked as a production worker for Ore-Ida Frozen Foods from 1960 to 1980 when he retired.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontario and the Brooks Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife daughters Katherine Duncan of Weiser, Idaho, Paulette Duncan of Ontario, and Sonia Hoyt of Keizer; brothers Evans W., of Salem, Stanley W. of Monmouth, and Daryl G. of Umatilla; sisters Bertha Jean Mullins and Sally Jo Becktold both of Salem; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
