In 1996, Baer chose another arena to serve and became a volunteer for SeniorCare Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Each year, he contributed an average of 500 hours of service where he was responsible for overseeing 17 tax sites and 41 counselors. In 2007, he received the Myra L. Herrick Outstanding Older American Award for his outstanding service to the surrounding communities.

A longtime resident of Beverly, MA, he was a member of the Order of Daedalians, a group of military pilots that met once a month at Hanscom Air Force Base. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
