Germaine Rosella Ferguson
Germaine Rosella Ferguson, age 80, of Winona, MN, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, after fighting a courageous six-month battle with cancer.
Germaine was born on July 13, 1930, in Winona, MN. She married Junior Ferguson on July 3, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She was a member of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Germaine worked at various factories in Winona, including Wincraft Industries for 21 years, until carpal tunnel disability forced her retirement in 1993.
Germaine will be remembered as a kind, colorful and determined individual with a great sense of humor and a strong devotion to her faith and family. She enjoyed baking, gambling, working in her flower garden, traveling; taking trips to Niagara Falls, Elko, Wendover, Reno, Las Vegas, and especially enjoyed a lifelong dream trip to Hawaii.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Junior Ferguson; her six children, Garey (Patricia), Cheryl (Stan Grossman), Larry (special friend, Lin), Koreen (Mark) Bartlett, Ron and Glenn, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Hilda (Fratzke) Polus; brother, Roger Polus; and sister, Phyllis Stever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, in Winona.
Germaine will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.
Monsignor Roy E. Literski will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM, on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 201 Mankato Ave., Winona, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, on Thursday, May 26, 2011, from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM.
Pallbearers will be Stan Ferguson, Jim Fisch, Dan Googins, Stan Grossman, Greg Hagen and John Werner.
