John Blount, a descendent of the prominent Blount brothers of North Carolina and Tennessee (one was a signer of the US Constitution, one was the first territorial governor of the Southwest Territory, and another was the 3rd governor of Tennessee) was the younger son of Vernon Clifford Fleming, Sr and his wife Mary Harvey Fink. He was the grandson of Verble Cleveland Fleming (#6560933) and his wife Lula 'Vernese' Hanks (#80429578) as well as Alfred Vought Fink (143480525) and his wife Barbara Gray Myers (#25547016). He was survived by his paternal grandmother, his parents, sisters Leslie and Holly and brother Vernon Clifford Jr. His oldest nephew, born after John's death, was named for him and, incredibly, has many of his physical mannerisms.

John was tragically misdiagnosed with the flu and died very quickly of strep A.

John was the light of our lives in many ways - always a jokester and smiling. His remains were cremated and remain with his family.

To honor his memory, his mother purchased a stone at The Orpheum Theatre, located on South Main Street at Beale Street in Memphis - a place he enjoyed and where he would treat her to a performance on occasion; his name and pertinent dates are on the stone.

*note: Leslie and predeceased brother Lawrence Harvey are half-siblings as their father was Vernon Richard Moore (# 89594431)
