Abbott Denis Jones, 60, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a six year battle with cancer.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Patricia H. (Purcell) and the late, Abbott O. Jones. Educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1971. He later attended Tractor Trailer School in Florida.
Known as an adventurous soul, “Denis” lived a life that most people dream of. A man of many talents, he was constantly looking for new challenges. His career was quite varied, and successful. He was a finish carpenter, he restored cars, and he drove trucks cross country. He was owner of Jones Siding and Roofing, and Abbott D. Jones Auto transport. He was not one to stay still, and loved being on the water. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sailing, water skiing and snow skiing. He was a longtime member of the Crescent Yacht Club.
He leaves his beloved partner of eleven years, Suzanne (McCluskey) Gonzalez, of Bradford, and her daughter, Anne M. Gonzalez, of Enfield, CT, his mother, Patricia H. (Purcell) Jones, of Groveland, a brother, Craig D. Jones, of Lynn, two sisters, Elizabeth A. “Betty” Huberdeau and her husband, Gene, of Groveland, and Kathleen S. Jackson and her fiancé, Michael Tardy, of Haverhill, nieces and nephews, Elizabeth J. Cena, Adam Huberdeau, Stacy Lulf, and Melissa Clark, aunt, Geraldine F. Mears and extended family and friends. He also leaves his loving dog, Abbie.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Memorial funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Kent Farm Rd. Hampstead, NH.
