New York State Assemblyman. He graduated from the Albany Academy and the Groton School. Corning attended Yale University, graduating in 1942 with a bachelor of arts degree (cum laude). He was a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II, and served primarily in the Pacific Theater. Corning was active in the insurance business, and was Vice President and and a Director of the Albany Associates agency. He was a member of the board of directors of Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and First Trust Company. Corning was a member of the Greater Albany Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Orange Club. A Democrat, in 1954 he was elected to the New York Assembly, and he served from 1955 to 1959. Corning resigned his Assembly seat after sustaining injuries in a car accident. He required extensive hospitalization and several surgeries but did not recover fully. After his accident Corning lived in retirement until his death at his home in Clarksville.
