HANNIBAL, Mo. – William Lee “Bill” Alvis, 61, of Hannibal, Mo., died early Saturday, March 7, 2015, surrounded by his family at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis after a lengthy illness.
Bill was born Oct. 27, 1953, in Keokuk, to Kenneth A. and Virgie L. Goins Alvis, the third of five children.
Bill attended school in Keokuk and served in the U.S. Navy.
His many likes included fishing, riding motorcycles and horses, playing guitar, singing, anything to do with the American West lifestyle, spending time in the mountains of Arkansas, and working outside. He especially liked spending time with his family, who likewise enjoyed his great sense of humor. He loved life and lived every day to its fullest.
Bill was a jack-of-all-trades and worked doing many different things throughout his lifetime. He was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, a vehicle repo man for a short period of time, trained horses and was a car salesman for several years in Fayetteville, Ark. One year, he sold more cars than anyone else at the car lot and won a free trip to Mexico for himself and his then wife Kathy. Bill became an ordained minister in 2003 with Shepherd Staff Ministries.
Bill is survived by four children, Carrie Lee Alvis, Misty (Gaylen) Hines, Billy Alvis and Cody Alvis; six grandchildren, Kevin, Shane, Morgan, Madison, Logan and Kayla; sisters, Linda (Terry) Altheide, Mary Johnson and Pam (Skip) Lewis; two very special friends, Sharon Boggs and Kathy Powell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth H. Alvis; nephew, Johnny Alvis; grandparents, Gladys Laisle, William Goins and Mary Watts; and several aunts and uncles.
Per his wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
