Ruth Marie (Harwood) Aasen, 90, passed away January 3, 2015, surrounded by her family at Pomerado Hospital in Poway, California.

Ruth was born April 22, 1924, to Helon “Noel” and Evelyn Harwood. In her youth she helped out with the many duties of running the family-owned cheese factory at Five Points, WI.

She married Daniel Howard Aasen on April 20, 1946, and was completely devoted to him during their more than 62 years of marriage. Ruth was a full-time and completely dedicated wife and mother. Just one example of this were the Sunday roast dinners that were served after church with no detail overlooked. Her family was completely spoiled by being “picked up after.” She embraced “the bus” and all the work that came with the camping lifestyle. She kept her keen sense of humor throughout her life.

Dan and Ruth thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years living in San Diego, frequently visiting the San Diego Zoo & Wild Animal Safari Park, beach and other local attractions. In her later years she devoted herself to the care of Dan until he passed away on August 3, 2008.

She along with her beloved husband, Daniel, will be greatly missed by her loving children, who will always cherish the many visits and special time spent together throughout their later years.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery; her husband, Dan; grandson, Cole Exner; parents, Helon and Evelyn Harwood; and her brother, Donald.

She is survived by her children, John Aasen of Houston, TX, Julie (Jim) Harnisch of Eau Claire, WI, Michael (Carol) Aasen of Minneapolis, MN, Janie (Scott) Exner of Wickenburg, AZ, and Tom (Toma) Aasen, San Diego, CA; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private gathering with the immediate family was held in San Diego, CA. A celebration of both Dan and Ruth’s lives will be held on April 18th, 2015, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church (corner of 4th and Niagara St.) in Eau Claire, WI. You are welcome to come and share your memories of Dan and Ruth with the family.
