Joann Jarvis-Miller, 81, in the company of close family friends at Fidellis 1 Assisted Living & Memory Care, peacefully accepted the Lord’s embrace Sunday afternoon, December 7th, 2014. Born Joan Francis Seguin, April 1st, 1933 in Ottawa Ontario, Canada, Joann is now in the company of her parents, Hector and Lillian Seguin, sister, Edna Rosevear, brother, Edmund Seguin and husbands, David L. Stewart, James Russell Jarvis and Irl Dee Miller. Joann leaves her devoted son, David C. Stewart, and wife Marcia; granddaughter, Shalynn Bielefeld and husband Hans of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; niece, Beverly Zurawel and husband Peter of Denver, Colorado; and so many special, dear friends in Oklahoma, notably, Gladyce Williams, Janie and Joe Medellin, and Pastor David Oxley Sr. Raised in rural Quebec and later Ottawa, Joann fled a brutally abusive marriage with her only child in 1968 to Puerto Rico armed only with a business diploma, faith and unmatched courage. Because “Joan” was understood as “John” in this Spanish country, she changed her name to Joann and launched a 30 years professional sojourn, rising from an assistant accountant to Front Desk Manager of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta GA, Vice President of Customer Service of Sea Pines Resort and a hotel General Manager on Hilton Head Island, to Executive Manager for the T-Bar-M Tennis Ranch in San Antonio Texas. In 1983, changing her focus to insurance and securities, Joann secured her investment broker’s license, culminating as Met Life General Sales Manager for Oklahoma and north Texas. Joann married the love of her life, James “Russell” Jarvis in 1976. Together, they helped and counseled many, made friends from all over the world, traveled to Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Mexico. She supported Russ in achieving his dream of owning an antique store, enjoying weekends with him at flea markets and trade shows. Together, they chose Oklahoma City as home in 1984. Joann became a naturalized American in 1995, the same year she suddenly and tragically lost Russell to a massive stroke. Anyone who knew or worked with Joann experienced her moral driven ethics, integrity, support, respect for hard work and intolerance of selfish dishonesty. A genuinely happy person, her world was always a win-win scenario. Joann was generous with her time and true to her heart. She supported many charities. She befriended many and they befriended her. An animal lover, there was never a stray dog, cat or bird she would not feed or care for should they find her back yard. Finally, retiring in 1999, Joann was ready to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Dancing became one of her passions. One day in 2004, Joann met Irl Dee (ID) Miller on the Oklahoma City Swing Club dance floor. They enjoyed many wonderful times together, dancing and traveling to various local resorts and dance competitions over the course of 4 years, making dozens of wonderful friends. Then she was confronted with the one challenge she could not overcome: Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Joann's slow deterioration over the next 2 years would force her and ID from their beloved home by 2010, a move that ID soon found fatal. For a second time Joann found herself alone, only this time trapped inside an increasingly empty place of mind and body: but her soul and faith did not whither. Joann faced this foe with steadfast determination, resiliency, dignity and incredible courage. With her last ounce of strength spent, she peacefully entered His eternal kingdom. Please join us at a memorial service in her honor to be held at Eagles Crest Fellowship, 5956 Northwest 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 16. In lieu of flowers, we humbly request donations for the Oklahoma City SPCA or the Oklahoma Chapter Alzheimer's Association.

Spouse-1, Irl Dee, allowed per auto SAC on 24 Jan 2017.
