Chesley S. Baker, 56, of ..., a prominent Grand Island attorney, died Saturday morning of cancer. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Charles Olsen and Robert Wade officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be ...at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Big Brothers.

Mr. Baker was born April 24, 1927, at Neligh, the son of Alva and Gisene Freese Baker. He grew up and received his education at Neligh. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army in 1945, serving with the 313th Medicatl Battalion in Italy. He was discharged in 1947. After his discharge, Mr. Baker entered the University of Nebraska where he received his B.A. degree. He also lettered in football for the Cornhuskers. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1954. On May 31, 1953, he married Della Hagensick at O'Neill. (Omitted here is a long list of occupation related, and other social organizations to which he belonged including deputy Hall County Attorney, founder of the Big Brothers chapter in Grand Island, Elks, American Legion and VFW.)

Mr. Baker was survived by his widow, a son, Rex...a daughter, Ellen...his father; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Irma Jean) Lentz of Stanton and Mrs. Warren (Nancy) Holm of Mesa, Ariz; and two brothers, Gordon of Neligh and Robert of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his mother and a daughter, Constance.
