FLORENCE J. RODEWALD

Florence J. Rodewald, age 87, a lifelong resident of Newton, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

She was born on May 19, 1923, in Newton, daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Fruzyna) Bonin. Florence was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1941. On Dec. 19, 1946, she married Elroy L. Rodewald in Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2002. She was employed with the United States Postal Service for 30 years, serving as Postmaster of the Newton Branch for over 10 years until her retirement. Florence was a member of the Manitowoc County Postmasters Organization and a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. She was a current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. Florence was well known for her bright red Geraniums that she planted at home every spring. She was a great cook and made excellent pies and always had a cold beer in her refrigerator for her guests. She will be remembered in many homes for the cozy afghans which she crocheted for family members.

Survivors include a sister: Evelyn Mayer, Sheboygan Falls. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant sister: Irene; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Edwin and Janet Bonin, Ralph and Mildred Bonin, Ralph and Mildred Bonin; and two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Helena and Edward Kortas, Alice and Leo Kornely and Hilary Mayer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton, from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, until 10:45 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
