Cumberland-Thelma Jean DeMundo, 91, of Cumberland passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the Western Maryland Health System Regional Medical Center.
Born in Clarksburg, WV, on March 31, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Priscilla (Hill) Webb.
During World War II, Thelma was a “Rosie the Riveter,” building C 46 Cargo Planes.
Thelma, until her retirement, was employed at Sacred Heart Hospital in the Central Supply Department. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church before it became the New Covenant United Methodist Church. At New Covenant, she participated in many of the church activities, such as the Church Bible Study and the Kitchen Committee. She also volunteered at the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Thelma was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Richard DeMundo, as well as her devoted husband, Frank J. DeMundo.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, and her church family at New Covenant United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, Sunday, March 15, 2015, from 2-5 P.M.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 16, 2015, at l p.m. at the New Covenant United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Chris Gobrecht officiating.
Friends will be received at the church an hour prior to the funeral.
Burial will be in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Thelma's memory may do so by making contributions to the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 1709 Frederick Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
