Lavona "Bonnie" Irene Whitson Anderson
• After a brief bout with cancer, Lavona (Bonnie) Irene Whitson Anderson of San Angelo passed from this earthly world to be with her family and friends in Heaven on April 10, 2010. She was at home and surrounded by her family. She fought courageously until the very end.
• Bonnie was born on Oct. 4, 1936, the youngest of seven children to Walter and Iris Whitson on the family farm in Benton. She graduated from Benton High School class of 1955. She was married to Leonard Anderson on June 4, 1963 and together they raised seven children and one grandchild. During this time they were long time residents of El Dorado. Bonnie elected to be a stay at home mom and raise her children. Nothing in life meant more to her than her kids and grandkids as well as extended family.
• Bonnie and Leonard moved to Texas in 1974 during the oil boom. They eventually settled in San Angelo to raise their kids.
• She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; son, Allen Eugene Anderson; brothers, Robert (Bud) Whitson and Walter (June) Whitson; and sisters, Imogene Meyersick, Maxine Schnoor and Shirley Williams.
• She is survived by: one sister, Verda Barnt of Wichita; four daughters, Diane Jones and husband Bruce of Sonora, Texas, Martie Frederick and husband Fred of Rockport, Texas, Ila Robison and husband Robby of San Angelo and Anita Nunez and husband Joey of San Angelo; two sons, Robert Anderson and wife Rebecca of Del Rio, Texas, and Walter Anderson of Sonora; one special grandson, Joseph Leonard Anderson of San Angelo; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
• The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Hospice of San Angelo.
• Visitation will be all day today, with the family present from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Shaffer Funeral Home’s Pioneer Chapel with burial to follow at Pioneer Memorial Park.
• Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home; (325) 481-3131.
